Stargate Universe On Sky1 HD Tonight

Stargate Universe starts in the UK tonight on Sky1 and Sky1 HD at 8pm.

Most of the publicity has been about how Robert Carlyle is in it. I hope the story matches up to the class of actor. Here’s a clip to whet your appetite, it looks suitably modern and post-BSG in style.

It held my attention enough when I watched the premier, but the more I thought about it, the more let down I was. It's quite a bit slower than the SG shows generally run, and not nearly as much fun (Much like Dr. Who, the Stargate franchise owes a lot of its appeal to goofy character-based comedy and clever dialog). That could just be that it's the introductory episode, however, and those are always a bit off.

Allegedly, the show is structured the way it is to allow new viewers to come onboard - folks who've had little or no exposure to the previous shows. I'd be interested to know if anyone felt this show was more accessable than the others, and what you folks opinion on that side of the Atlantic is like.

My spoiler-filled review is here, if anyone's intersted: http://www.republibot.com/content/episode-review-stargate-universe-%E2%80%9Cair-parts-1-and-2%E2%80%9D-season-1-episodes-1-and-2

So did anyone like it? What did you all think?

Well, I know what you mean, but I'm a SG junkie so will give the first series ago then decide.

At the moment I'm between is it just being milked or have they used the Star Trek Voyager idea and blew it.

I agree it needs a better Rodders & John in there or its sadly going to flop.
