JG Ballard Dies

The Science Fiction author JG Ballard has died at the age of 78.

I’ve read a couple of his books: Cocaine Nights and recently The Drowned World. Both of which I can best describe as atmospheric and odd.

He was a primary figure in the New Wave movement which dared to take Science Fiction in both a literary and experimental direction.

Man, when I heard this over breakfast I felt like I'd been punched in the chest. Totally taken aback. He was one of my all-time favorite writers - not just of SF - one of my all-time favorite writers, period.

Wrote up my thoughts on it for my site, if you're at all interested.

That's a good obituary. I agree he was a great writer. I definitely need to read more of his stuff.

Thanks. I appreciate that. He was one of those writers that challenged me just as I was starting to get bored with SF, and is largely responsible for me continuing to like the genre.
