Doctor Who - The Sontaran Stratagem

Doctor Who and The Villains Which Haven't Been Done Yet.

Yes, it's the return of the Sontarans.

Spoilers ahead....

I can't say I know anything about the Sontarans, or even remember them in Old Who. Are they really as classic as Daleks and Cybermen? For a start they look like Humpty Dumpty, secondly they talk in a way which induces giggles, thirdly they have a vital weakness that's very silly (a valve in the back of the neck).

This episode was basically a New Who version of a John Pertwee Doctor Who episode, with updated UNIT and Martha Jones. Martha was okay, but she still irritates me. Donna was taking it all too well. Bernard Cribbins was the best.

It was all a bit predictable and not very good. Hasn't RTD done this story before? Young genius gets caught up in alien invasion, blah, blah... Substitute GPS systems for Bluetooth ear-pieces, etc etc.

No doubt the big twist will be that the Sontarans are not the main enemy and that the Time War will continue with the Daleks, the Sontarans unwittingly being manipulated.

I also bet that the whole world isn't going to die in grey smoke. Unveil the Deus Ex Machina!

Episode 4 of the series, and can you tell I'm feeling less forgiving?
