Cloverfield is a Cthulhu film?

Cloverfield is the new project from JJ Abrams (the Lost geezer) and the trailer is online, along with assorted viral, ARG type websites and buzz inducing mechanisms. Dave informs me that the rumour is that the film is based on a story by some bloke called HP Lovercraft. That'll be a Cthulhu film then.
