Doctor Who - Tooth And Claw
The Doctor and Rose end up in 1879 (despite aiming for 1979) and encounter Queen Victoria and something strange in a big Scottish house.
SPOILERS AHEAD
I liked how at the start of this episode the Doctor and Rose are giddy with travelling in time, one big jolly adventure. This is also referenced at the end of the episode, when Queen Victoria admonishes them about this. A nice touch. Oh and also laughed a lot at the Doctor driving the TARDIS with a mallet!
The plot itself was, well, ok. But the execution was excellent. Overall I though that the episode was quite stylishly shot and much better than the run-of-the-mill werewolf story I expected. the fighting monks were pretty cool, Matrix slow motion combined with Crouching Tiger fighting combined with 28 Days Later editing. The lighting was nice as well, a good atmosphere. The visual effects were okay as well, especially the transformation into the wolf.
David Tennant seems much more flippant as the Doctor and it was nice how Queen Victoria's reaction to him was to set up Torchwood, to guard against people like him.
It was probably more scary for adults than kids, as the fast cutting werewolf eating bits left a lot to the imagination and adults fill in the gaps more graphically. I watched Doctor Who Confidential straight after and there was a quote (from Russell T Davies I think) that said something like "To children it's a serious, scary show, the funny bits are to keep the adults entertained."
Loads and loads of stuff online as usual.
