Battlestar Galactica 212 - Resurrection Ship Part 2

Continuing immediately from the climactic cliff hanger of Resurrection Ship (part 1)

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Hmmm. Mixed feelings about this episode.

There were some good bits: the battle was great, lots of fire and explosion and spaceship and camera shake. The moment of decision was handled well, lots of tension as Adam and Cain decide to not actually kill each other. As usual Baltar was fantastic, his interaction with Gina and Number Six at the same time was great.

However the bad things overshadowed them. First off, the whole Apollo nearly dying bit. What was the point in that? It just felt like padding. Then, once Baltar handed Gina the gun I could see the whole plot unravel. Worst of all, Starbuck's speech at the end. She apologised for all the bad things that Cain had done. It felt like the show as a whole was trying to excuse the things that military do in times of war, and that just left me with a bad taste.

BSG seems, in my opinion, to flip flop between great and disappointing (although it's disappointing against its own high standards), like some super-extended but inverted even-odd Star Trek film rule. Hopefully it'll break that pattern soon.
