End of the World SF

I don't know why (perhaps it's the encroaching flu pandemic) but I have an urge to read apocalyptic, end of the word science fiction.

Can anyone recommend any?

My (very) short list so far consists of:

Day Of The Triffids
War Of The Worlds
The Drowned World

For apocalyptic, robots take over the freaking earth, good fun- check out the Mental-Escher Podcasts related to Flu Pandemic AND the Rise of the Machines! Hope you enjoy!!

Wikipedia has several suggestions - just pick your flavor of destruction: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalyptic_and_post-apocalyptic_science_fiction

Oh yes, and check out IROSF's article: http://www.irosf.com/q/zine/article/10013

'Earth Abides' is pretty neat. 'The Chrysalids' too.

Earth Abides is one of those books of heard about as a classic but never got round to reading. I shall check it out.

As for the Wikipedia entry, !!! I should have guessed there would be some something, but that's a very comprehensive list of apocalypses!

Nemesis by Asimov? Read it when I was a kid (too young for it) but remember it being great at the time - not sure if it woudl stand up to a reread though

Dave, is Nemesis an apocalyptic story? The blurb sounds like a far future space exploration plot. Or would that give the plot away?!
