Battlestar Galactica 203 - Fragged

Apollo launches a mission from Galactica to rescue the crew of the downed raptor on Kobol.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Two threads to this episode. Firstly the increasingly frantic survival of the crash survivors on Kobol. And secondly Colonel Tigh coping with the pressure of command.

Some good moments this episode. I liked how Crashdown ratcheted up the strain on himself until he lost the plot. Although commanding a platoon of inexperienced combat soldiers against a Cylon squad was never going to be easy was it? The Cylons strutting around the forest looked nice and mean, with big fast guns! The moment where Baltar shot Crashdown was handled well. The Chief is a likeable character. And loads more religious hints, Baltar thinks he is invincible until Number Six tells him that God has disowned Kobol...sounds like plot device rather than detailed arc structure? Also plenty of Father/Son references...

Number Six fashion report: several scenes with mourning black and some with the regulatory skimpy dresses. I love how the costumes change, it would be discontinuity bugs in any other show, but to me it just highlights Baltar's increasing insanity.

On Galactica Tigh fails to cope under the pressure. I really don't like Tigh, but then that's the point I guess. He's such a failure. The quorum of twelve get shown the presidents role in the prophecy, although what the tomb of Athena has to do with it all I have no idea.

At the end of the episode almost everything is tied up from the last series. Adama will live, the crashed crew are rescued, Laura is leading everyone to Earth. The only loose end is Helo and Starbuck who were missing from this episode. I didn't mind, it gave more time for the two plots.

But then the final scene opens upon one more strand. Tigh declares marshall law.

Nice.
